Joan Planas Illas

Spanish collegiate champion

05/17/2005

The spanish collegiate championships were held in Málaga on Saturday 14 and 15 and I won the title for the second consecutive year.

It was a difficult competition due to the strong front wind and the heat and it was reflected in the performances.

RESULTS
1 Joan Planas (UOC) 4'80m
2 Victor Zardoya (UAB) 4'70m
3 Kiko Rodriguez (UPC) 4'70m

First round

05/7/2005

My first competition and my first victory, my performance doesn't matter. It was my first competition with my new club (Puma Chapin Jerez) and I did the job. It was not easy because of my lack of running and tiredness was more noticeable than I thought.

My teammates surprised me in a pleasant way, very nice people and a great group.

Some of the pictures I took at Nerja (Malaga).

RESULTS
1 Joan Planas (Puma Chapín Jerez) 4'80m
2 Igor Bichkov (AAC) 4'70m
3 Andrés Hinojo (Puma Chapin Jerez) 4'70m
4 Angel B. Sanchez (Playas de Jandia) 4'60m
5 Jaume Martí (AAC) 4'60m

Season begins

04/25/2005

I have my first competition in Nerja (Màlaga) next saturday 30, is the first meeting in the spanish First Division.

I'm looking forward to see what can I do, it will be my first contact with competition since my injury and I hope I'll do my best.

Vaulting again

04/5/2005
I'm resuming vaulting after three months and a double 10 cm hamstring trap.
I was fearfull about relapsing last weeks, but we achieved to strengthen my hamstring enough to have no problems vaulting. I had a good day yesterday (first test), clearing 4'40 - 4'50 from four lefts.
Everything works again.

Injury

01/08/2005
I have a trap in my left hamstring. It happened while competing at Zaragoza, I vaulted 4'90m and in the first at 5'10m I noticed a big pain at the take off.
I don't know how much time will it take to recover but I'll try my best to be in the nationals in Madrid.

First meetings

12/18/2004
After doing 4'85m last week, today I have competed in CAR again. I've jumped 5'20 and the good sensations have come back. The objectives we set for this season are reachable.
I competed with 14 strides and without spikes.

RESULTS
1 Joan Planas (Puma Chapín Jerez) 5'20m
2 Oriol Adeva (FCB) 5'10m
3 Raul Mayor (FCB) 5'00m
4 Fco Javier Rodriguez (Puerto de Alicante) 4'85m
5 Victor Zardoya (CAI Gran Canaria) 4'85m

This is my 5'20 jump:

Puma Chapin Jerez has contracted me

10/23/2004
I was looking forward for this for a long time and now it has come true. This is the best men's athletic club in Spain and I'll have the oportunity to take part in the European Clubs Cup.

Meeting du Nivelles (Belgium)

8/15/2004
As happened last year, I wanted to end my season at the wonderful track of a village 10 km south of Brussels. That place has something special.
But this year I had to compete with real vaulters: Christian Tamminga (NED), Jean Galfione (FRA), Jerome Clavier (FRA) and Sebastien Homo (FRA). I was pretty excited to compete with Galfione (world and olimpic champion and a PB of 6 meters) and eventually he was the only one I beat. I competed without spikes and without pressure.

RESULTS
1 Christian Tamminga (NED)  5'41m
2 Jerome Clavier (FRA)  5'41m
3 Sebastien Homo  5'21m
4 Joan Planas (ESP)  5'01m
5 Mathieu Boisrond (FRA)  5'01m
6 Sebastien Hoffelt (BEL)  4'81m
7 Jean Galfione (FRA)  XXX
8 Jaume Marti (ESP)  XXX

I Gran Premio Gobierno de Aragón

6/8/2004
My first and unforgettable chance to compete with the best vaulters in the world.
Roger Noguera and me compited for Spain, and we had a lot of fun. We realised that what they do does not involve magic but a lot of work, it's not impossible to achieve those heights.
Take a look at the results, it's well worth.
